  2. MentePC 1. OVERVIEW 2. SPECIFICATIONS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT 3. INSTALLATION 4. MAIN FUNCTIONS 4-1 REAL TIME MONITORING 4-2 RECORDED DATA MONITORING 4-3 EEPROM DATA MONITORING 4-4 READING OF SAVED DATA DATA LOGGING 5. HOW TO USE “MentePC” 6. Abnormal cases during PC maintenance

  3. 1. Overview MentePC 1.1 This program is for monitoring the operation data from the outdoor unit by connecting the personal computer to the control PCB of KXE4/KXRE4, KXE6/KXRE6 and Inverter PAC outdoor unit and can save the data in a file (.csv). 1.2 What are the usage of MentePC in the field? (1) Testing/Commissioning : (a) To check the addresses of indoor units and outdoor combinations units. (b) To check the operation of outdoor unit (Temperature, pressure, current and etc.) (c) To check the operations of multiple indoor units (d) To judge if the system operation have passed the criteria of standard running operation (2) After sales servicing (a) To assist in troubleshooting irregular stop witherror codes (b) To assist and provide additional information to other claims without error codes

  4. MentePC 2. Specification/Working Environment 2.1 Communication Specifications: Interface : RS-232C (Cross Cable) Synchronized Method : Half-duplex asynchronous communication Transmission Speed : 19200 bps Data Format : Start bit 1 bit + data 8 bits + parity 1 bit (even) = stop bit 1 bit 2.2 Working Environment This program is created with Excel macros, and thus, will run only on a personal computer in which Microsoft Excel is installed. Operation has been confirmed with the following combination of PC, OS and Excel versions.

  5. MentePC 3. Installation • Execute “MentePC_V**.EXE” in a random folder. • The program will be automatically extracted and developedin the following manner. MentePC_V**. DATA DATA Conversion.xls (data conversion table) RAM DATA **** (Setting file for each model) MessageData (Multi languages DATA) MentePC_V**.xls(Execution file)

  6. MentePC 3. Installation Set the date for windows Select “Control Panel” >> “Regional Options” >> “Date” Change the date to “MM/dd/yyyy” with the “Short date format” under the Date setting. MM/dd/yyyy

  7. MentePC 3. Installation Set decimal point Note: If the decimal point is “,”(comma), MentePC can not read and write the Log Data files normally, because it can not distinguish the separator from the decimal point. Decimalpoint 『. 』 dot

  8. MentePC 3. Installation Date Format Compatibility: If the date format of the logged data does not match with PC setting, Excel can not recognise the date and can’t draw the graphs. In this case, check the date format of the logged data file and set “Regional Options” of PC format. Can’t draw the graphs. MM/dd/yyyy

  9. MentePC 3. Installation Separator Setting: If the setting of the separator is NOT comma “,”(comma) in the PC, Excel can not recognise the separator, in this case set the separator into comma.. The separator use in the logging files is always “,”(comma).

  10. MentePC 3. Installation Digit Symbol 『 , 』 comma List Separator 『 , 』 comma

  11. MentePC 3. Installation Connecting methods (1) For KX multi series Connect the outdoor control PCB and personal computer's serial port with a 232C serial cable. Use a cross cable with a D-SUB 9-pin female connector for connection to the outdoor control PCB, and a connector matching the personal computer's serial port (USB). (USB)

  12. MentePC 3. Installation Connecting methods (2) For Inverter Single PAC series Connect the CNV connector on the outdoor control PCB and personal computer’s USB port through the MentePC converter (Optional part) as shown in following figure.. USB cable to connect MentePC converter and personal computer should be prepared locally. Be sure to install USB driver software to the personal computer according to the instruction manual attached to the locally procured USB cable.

  13. MentePC 3. Installation Connecting to combination units <ON-SITE CHECK> (1) Check the operating data Outdoor unit (Master & Slave), Indoor unit (2) If an error code appears, investigate and fix the problem at that time. In case of combination outdoor unit If there are 1 USB port to 4 RC232C ports interface on your MentePC cable, you can connect four cables to a master units and a slave units. MentePC can monitor both units individually at an instance.

  14. MentePC 4. Main Functions MODE SELECTION (Outdoor unit model) 4-1 Real time monitoring Time interval can be changed from 1 to 60 seconds 4-2 Record data monitoringThe data for 30 min before an error occurred can be observed 4-3 EEPROM data monitoringThe data at the instance of an error can be observed. 4-4 Saved data read Stored data can be read and shown in some graphs.

  18. MentePC 4. Main Functions 4.1 Real Time Monitoring (current time) (1)The operation data at the current time is displayed at a 1-second to 60-second cycle, and is saved. (2)This function is also useful for troubleshooting. (3)Commissioning data can be supplied using this function. Outdoor unit information This data is received at the beginning of communication. Log data

  19. MentePC 4. Main Functions 4.1 Real Time Monitoring (current time) Latest 600 set of data is plotted on the graph (In case sampling time is 1 second, the graph shows the operation of last 10 minutes.) OFF ON

  20. MentePC 4. Main Functions 4.1 Real Time Monitoring (current time) (1) Maximum 4 graphs can be shown at the same time. (2) The graph items can be selected with pull-down menu.

  21. MentePC 4. Main Functions 4.2 Record Data Monitoring (1) The operation data for 30 minutes before an error occurred can be displayed and saved. (2)The control PCB stores the operation data into its RAM area every 1 minute. Totally last 30 set of data remain in the RAM. When some kind of error occurs, the last 30 set of data still remains. Caution ! If the power of the outdoor unit is switched off, the data are lost. Please take the data first before power off for troubleshooting. Error For 30 min The data renewed automatically If the end-user restart the air-conditioner by using a remote-controller after abnormal stop, the data will be also renewed in 30 minutes.

  22. MentePC 4. Main Functions 4.2 Record Data Monitoring Sample operating graph ERROR OCCURED

  23. MentePC 4. Main Functions 4.3 Monitoring EEPROM Data (1) Control PCB stores the operation data set into its EEPROM (non-volatile memory) at the moment of an error. (2) The data set remains even if the power is switched off. (3) Last two data sets can remain. The previous ones are erased and over-written. (4) The part of data set can be checked with a remote-controller. ERROR #1 ERROR #2 ERROR #3 DATA #3 ←Remaining data set in EEPROM DATA #2 You can get some hints for troubleshooting from this data set after a restart by power off !
