SIMPLE BoS Installer Network Balance of System (BoS) costs now account for upwards of 60% of the price of U.S. rooftop PV Systems. However, such costs are 75% lower in Germany, the international solar market leader. Georgia Tech and RMI are partnering to conduct a detailed time-and-motion study to explore specific components of this cost divide between the U.S. and Germany. Balance of System Cost Comparisons Between the U.S. and Germany $2.11 PII* Customer Acquisition Hardware** $0.56 Labor *Permitting, inspection, and interconnection costs **Does not include inverter cost Source: Seel et al. “Why are Residential PV Prices in Germany So Much Lower Than in the United States?” Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
