  6. Militia Driven Incident (OKC) • Domestic • Oklahoma City Incident • Driven by domestic militia • Attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building • Used Ammonium Nitrate as explosive agent. • 168 Fatalities and over 800 injured.

  7. Hezbollah (Suicide Incidents)

  8. Hezbollah • 1982 – Present • Numerous attacks against Western targets (Over 1,000 dead*. (*Does not include Israeli figures) • Internecine conflict between Hezbollah and SLA • International Terrorist attacks (Argentina and London car bombing) • Following the May 2000 withdrawal of Israel, Hezbollah used this time to create a rocket force. • This force is claimed to be in the realm of 10,000 • Primary use – to attack Israeli population centers

Hezbollah (Kidnapping/ Assassination) • Oct 7th, 2000 - Adi Avitan, Omer Soued and Binyamin Avraham (Kidnapped) • Oct 16th, 2000 – kidnapping of Elchanan Tannenbaum • Murder of Adi Avitan, Omer Soued and Binyamin Avraham. • Murder of Abbas Mussawi (Secetary General) • Murder of Ghaleb Awwali • Murder of Mahmoud Abu Rfeh

Border Conflict • March 12, 2002 attack kills six Israeli civilians • August 10, 2003 – a 16 year old Israeli boy • Hezbollah leaders praise Suicide bombers (2002, 2003, 2004) • Incursions along the “blue line” • June 16th, 2004 Hezbollah uses 14 and 15 year old Palestinian girls as bombers – IDF foils the plot • June 23, 2004 suicide bombing foiled

  11. 2006 Conflict with Israel • Hezbollah fires rockets and mortars into civilian areas to divert attention of IDF • Two Israeli soldiers are kidnapped, three murdered, buy Hezbollah unit sneaking across border. • Hezbollah fired ~4000 rockets, of which 23% are estimated to have landed in civilian areas. (~1000).

Outcomes of both groups • The OKC incident drove the domestic Militia's into the fringe elements of society. • Crackdown by US government on these groups. • ------------------------------- • Hezbollah Still exists following all the incidents. • Continues to call for the “utter destruction of Israel”.

  13. Islamist fanaticism still continues to spread through the middle east and into the broader world.Regional conflicts now overflow regionally and represent a Clash of Civilizations. Israel is part of and represents the West.What happens there – happens and matters here.
