7. Windows 7 Deployment • Licensed for Windows 7 Professional • No Enterprise or Ultimate editions: Bitlocker, Branch Cache & Direct Access • Existing Enterprise or Ultimate can re-imaged • All deployment tools tied to Windows License • Access to all MDT, WIM etc • Can re-image machines

10. Allocation doesn’t matter. • Purchase of SA will be more expensive than Subscription model • Software Assurance continuity will require coverage from 1st July. • This is a 3 Month saving on Subscription. • Subscription is the cheapest way to acquire SA.

11. Are you thinking about going to Thin Clients? • Customers that use PCs covered with active Windows Client SA to access a virtual desktop do not need any additional licensing. • For customers intending to use Thin Clients, Microsoft has introduced Microsoft VDA (Virtual Desktop Access) • Windows VDA is a device based subscription, and will be available through all major Microsoft Volume Licensing programs

12. OCS Voice CAL • There is the Microsoft grandfathering policythat can be applied as long as customer maintains their SA of ECAL Suite or OCS Enterprise CAL until OCS 15 will become available. • So if the customer renews their agreement with ECAL Suite or OCS Enterprise CAL until OCS 15, Voice CAL 15 will be granted for them. • This would be recommend to off-set any future cost of looking at Unified Comms with Exchange 2010 and OCS Server.

MDOP (Product List - Page 77 of 137 July 2010) • Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance (MDOP) is [...] available only to those customers who have Software Assurance on their Windows Desktop. • Therefore, customers must have Windows SA coverage for Application Virtualization using App-V

Unlimited Virtualization on SQL Enterprise (Product List - Page 122 of 137 July 2010) • Enterprise customers who maintain active software assurance coverage on SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise licenses are granted the following temporary use rights • When the software is licensed under the Per Processor licensing model: Customers may run, at any one time, any number of instances of the server software in one physical and any number of virtual operating system environments

Windows Virtualization Right (Product Use Rights - Page 7 of 136 July 2010) • If you acquire “Software Assurance”, you have the right to use “Windows 7 Enterprise” on the device instead of Windows Professional. • This also permits you during the term of your Software Assurance coverage to run up to four additional copies or instances on the device. • The right to run instances ends with SA

Investing in local software • If you need to ‘fill’ shortfall in small areas • Select • Open • If you need to maintain Windows 7 subscriptions for MDOP; • And/or utilise ECAL functionality above and beyond any transferred allocation • ESA is the cheapest route • For ad-hoc server acquisitions Select will remain the ideal vehicle • BUT with some forethought these can be wrapped into the ESA option, or enrolled into either 1) Enrolment for Application Platform 2) Enrolment for Core infrastructure
