Welcome to Ms. Schedel’s Math Class • Common Core is a set of nation-wide agreed upon learning objectives developed for each grade. (k-12) • This is the first year N.C. is participating in common core; therefore, it is a transition year and some accommodations will be made to the curriculum. (example: probability, statistics) • I will send out more information on this as we progress through the year. You can also look up the new standards by going to the NCDPI website and typing “common core” into the search bar.
Homework • Homework will be assigned every night except after a test. (Yes, this includes Friday!) • Assignments are typically 15-20 problems and should not take more than 30 minutes to complete. • Students are required to write each problem (except word problems), show all of their work, and circle the answer.
Grade Scale for Math: • Common Core Objectives via Tests 50%*** • Quizzes 20% • Class work 20% (will retake if score under 80%) • Homework 10% ***Unit tests are given during the school year but you will not see them listed as “Unit 1 test”. The tests will be broken down into the new common core standards individually. By doing this you will be able to know exactly which area your child needs to focus on in preparation for the end of grade test.
