Objective • To design and construct a building in which has the following attributes: • 24’x24’ • Able to be multifunctional • Leave potential for future development
Overall vision • To make Southeastern’s campus more self sufficient and thus saving the University thousands of dollars per year • Start 10 year plan of constructing a sustainability center
Factors in the design • Since the process of pellet mill production is rather dusty and dirty we must take this into consideration • Furthermore, this means that proper ventilation must be installed throughout the building • Since we will be transporting pellets to another building there must be an opening to complete this transport. • Also, since it is woody product it is subject to combust. To ensure safety we must put into place both a sprinkler system and eyewash station
Research on type of building • Steel building is the best option for the type of work and environment the building will be used for. • Properties do not change considerable with time • Ease of repair. • Expanding existing structures • High strength/weight ratio • High ductility rate • General cost is slightly more
Deliverables • Surveying and soil mechanics. Since the project site is already graded and leveled I plan just to take a survey and soil sample to ensure that the site is indeed leveled and the soil is okay to build upon. • OSHA standards. Follow building codes specifications to ensure safety • Drafting. In this aspects I will draw all plans as preliminary drawings and are suspect to change but will be the foundation of the main design process of the structure. In addition, these drawings will help me to identify the technical specifications of each task at hand. • Construction Materials. Gathering a materials list for the project. • Estimation. Estimate the total project including materials, labor, and construction. The owner in which I will be working with has a budget of 17,000 dollars in which I will have to take into consideration. • Project management. I will have to plan and execute the plans in which I construct to meet timely goals to further the projects overall process and quality.
