  2. Overview • Two kinds of distinct formal review meeting. • Project review meetings or appraisals. • Focus on progress towards specific research project goals • Development review meetings • Focus on career development of researcher. • Very important that these are separate meetings

  3. School Responsibilities • The School of Geosciences is responsible for: • promoting and encouraging PI good management practice. (which is why we’re having this meeting) • establishing and fostering a framework under which all staff are supported and managed.

  4. Responsibility of PI’s • Direction, and active management, of the research project • The project works • Actively supporting the career development of research staff • Development meetings normally held between PI and researcher • Can be held between researcher and someone else (nominated by research group head)

  5. Short term implementation plans • Roll out development review meetings • Clear demand from Research staff • Not currently happening • Aim is for all researchers to have one by 31st December 2009. • Induction packs to include Code of Practice

  6. Longer-term implementation plans • Focus on needs of early career stage researchers first.
