  2. The T. M. Goodwin Waterfowl Management Area is a 6,400-acre wetland restoration project developed in cooperation with: Ducks Unlimited North American Wetlands Conservation Council St. Johns River Water Management District Wetland Reserve Program, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

  3. The goal of the WMA is to restore and enhance wetland habitat for waterfowl and other wetland dependent wildlife and provide public recreational opportunities. Restoration and enhancement is accomplished by implementing a variety of wetland management techniques such as water level manipulation, mechanical disturbance, and control burning.

  4. Habitat Management Activities

  5. Challenges: Controlling exotics, namely Para grass. • Very invasive exotic. Grows under a wide variety of conditions. • Tolerates flooding and droughts. • C-3/C-4 plant (out competes natives). • Reproduces primarily through stolons and rhizomes, eliminating the possibility of mech. control. • Very difficult to burn even under the best (worst) conditions.

  7. Public Use Activities

  8. Waterfowl hunting • For the 2005-2006 waterfowl season, 1,429 hunters harvested 4,425 ducks • Average of 3.1 ducks/hunter

  9. Snipe hunting • For the 2002-2003 snipe season, 45 hunters harvested 167 snipe. • Average of 3.71 snipe/hunter

  10. Other activities • Bank and Small Boat Fishing • Hiking, Biking, and Horseback Riding • Bird watching • Guided tours of the WMA Hiking
