Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL) • Expertise in all areas of telecommunications and signal processing. • Interaction and collaboration with the Telecom industry vital to Development of Telecommunication Industry in KSA. • Telecommunications Research Laboratory (TRL) at KFUPM is Established

TRL Organization • Three Main Groups • Systems & Concept Group • Prototype Development Group • Measurement & Evaluation Group
Systems & Concept Group • The activities of the Systems and Concepts Group are directed towards developing new techniques and procedures for use in current and future telecommunications systems. • This group is a source of new knowledge which may be used by the researchers and industrial partners to help attain a leadership in the area of telecommunications.
Product Development Group • The Product Development Group has been entrusted with the task of transforming the new techniques and procedures developed by the Systems and Concepts Group into prototypes of telecommunication products or sub-systems.
Measurement & Evaluation Group • The Measurement and Evaluation Group is assigned the task of conducting field trials to evaluate telecommunication systems for performance, quality of service (QoS), suitability to the environment and so on.
Areas of Expertise • Digital Communications – system design, traffic and performance evaluation, modem design, synchronization circuits. • Telecommunication Networks – study of network topology, protocols for packet and switched data, and network performance evaluation. • Wireless Communications – coverage analysis, spectrum management, licensing, cellular systems, Private Data Networks, GSM, CDMA, Capacity and QoS evaluations, handover design, 3G and 4G Systems, WAP and Wireless IP.
Areas of Expertise • Signal processing in communications- simulations of new conceptual designs and implementation of signal detectors and estimators, adaptive equalizers, advanced receiver structures using DSP/FPGA. • Computer Communications- traffic analysis, network capacity, architectures, routing and protocol studies. • Development of test-beds of new systems.
