  2. Sparkly, shiny and crystal clear windows are one of the many things that can make you happy. The bright sunlight falls into your little haven and you feel the warmth of it touching your soul. Also, clean windows are a means of internal satisfaction. So, what do you do when you first move into your apartment only to find dirty frames with bird droppings, dust and grime on them? Here are a few tips to make the glass clean and clear and free of dirt:

  3. Vacuum/Sweep Before you pull out any cleaning solution, pull out your vacuum. This won’t clear the tough streaks and debris, but will clear away the dust and other particles. You can also sweep the dust using a long tailed brush or wiper.

  4. Vinegar and Water Solution Vinegar has more uses for non-food items than for food. It cleans, shines, softens and clears tough stains effortlessly. Take 1 part vinegar with 2 parts of water to make a solution. Take a piece of cotton or cloth dipped into the solution and rub on the corners of the glass frame and on tough grime. The solution will soften the stains and you will be able to wash it off to bring back the shine.

  5. Wash on a non-sunny day The best day to wash windows is when it’s not sunny. The reason being that sunlight can cause them to warm up, and the cleaning solution that you use for washing may warm up too, creating more (unwanted) streaks. Tip: it’s a good idea to book a cleaning professional for a cloudy morning (weather predictions can help here).

  6. Use a soft cloth to dry This is extremely important. If you use a cloth that is rugged, your washing efforts will go down the drain. A soft fabric is gentle on glass and leaves little or no streaks, where as a rough cloth will do just the opposite. Also, by no means use a paper towel as it leaves behind lint. Use a microfiber cloth for best results.

  7. Toothpaste Can Be a Great Savior Toothpaste is another multipurpose product. Clear away those minor scratches by dabbing a little bit of toothpaste on the glass. Rub the area for 20-4 seconds. Wipe with a damp cloth. And then with a soft dry cloth. This will clear away the scratches and marks, and save you from maintenance fee in case you’re on rent!
