Workforce Involvement Event 1st May 2012ObjectivesFraser EastonChair, Workforce Involvement Group
MISSION STATEMENT To stimulate lateral learning and best practice across the offshore industry, through involvement of the whole workforce.
OTHER PRIORITY Identify & Remove the ‘Blockers’ to Effective Workforce Involvement
AREAS OF WIG ACTIVITY • Bullying & Intimidation – ‘A Just Culture’ • Different treatment of Staff & Contractors – ‘two-tier’ issues • Information not consultation – consider Safety Case Thorough Reviews
WHY ARE WE DIFFERENT • Truly tri-partite – workers & unions, employers associations and the regulator working as a team, towards a common goal • Reporting directly to the Offshore Industry Advisory Committee (OIAC) – real influence to effect change if we provide hard evidence
A RECENT SUCCESS • Additional training for Safety Representatives – a new industry standard currently being developed by OPITO for additional developmental training • Follows work by WIG to identify gaps and secure support of OIAC • OIAC was able to obtain buy-in from Step Change to adopt the standard
IN SHORT TODAY IS ABOUT • Learning from each other to understand the real issues affecting workforce involvement • Spreading good ideas and practices • Working to Eradicate bad practices • Hearing from you!
TASK • Each table write down the one thing that they feel contributes most positively to an effective workforce involvement culture • And similarly what single thing acts as a ‘blocker’? • ‘Goldfish Bowl’ for questions to panel/WIG
