THE DALAI LAMA FOREWORD At a fundamental level, as human beings, we are all the same; each one of us aspires to happiness and each one of us does not wish to suffer. This is our most fundamental reality. And on this level, the problems that we each face as human beings remain the same. This is why, whenever I have the opportunity, I try to draw people's attention to what as members of the human family we have in common and the deeply interconnected nature of our existence and welfare. Today, there is increasing recognition among the general public, as welI as a growing body of scientific evidence, that confirms the close connection between our own states of mind and our happiness. Many of the world's great spiritual traditions, encourage us to make compassion the focus of our relations with our fellow beings and with the world in which we live. When we help others, our mind takes on a much broader view that enables us to see our own petty problems more realistically and in clearer perspective. When we feel connected with others we are able to open our hearts and reach out to others. In doing so, we acquire a deep sense of trust and security, a true sense of freedom.
STRESS-An integral part of life , has attained the status of most talked about issue plaguing our society and millions caving into the negative of stress, i.e DISTRESS. It is extremely strange that we have learned stress only as villain, whereas the fact remains- the hero of stress i.e EUSTRESS has not been properly understood.
EUSTRESS is our challenging and appropriate positive approach to STRESS. Give up and you have DISTRESS, Fight it out and you have EUSTRESS.
STRESS is a Catalyst , a Stimulus and an Opportunity for Innovation and Progress.
“ IT IS A CHOICE AND NOT A CHANCE THAT DETERMINES YOUR DESTINY” Jean Nidetch
A strong desire to adapt or overcome the situation is an outcome of EUSTRESS. We are DISTRESSED only when we are mentally unable to cope up and adjust with the demand made on us.
STRESS IS NATURAL Distance, Communication, Competition to survive, sustain and excel, Listening, talking, walking, working, heat, cold, rain etc etc are all natural stressors.
STRESS-A WAY OF LIFE Life experiences are full of challenges and difficulties. We have to learn to face them, overcome them and neutralize them. We have to shift from being sensitive to becoming sensible. When we are sensible, we are able to understand in the right perspective each and every stimulus which reaches us.
