Our Schedule • 8:45 – 9:05 Arrival / Morning Work • 9:05 – 11:00 Language Arts (90 min. of Rdg.) • 11:05 – 11:55 Specials – PE tomorrow! • 11:55 – 12:10 Grammar • 12:15 – 12:45 Lunch • 12:50 – 1:00 Teacher Read Aloud • 1:00 – 1:30 Small Groups (RTI) • 1:30 – 2:30 Math • 2:30 – 2:50 Recess • 2:55 – 3:35 Social Studies or Science or Health • 3:35 – 3:45 Pack up / Dismissal

  6. Reading Workshop • State-mandated 90-min. Reading only • Combination of whole group, small group, and individualized instruction • Literacy Café – targeted, individualized goal- setting and focus on Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, or Expanding Vocabulary • Weekly story from textbook, computerized assessment on Fridays • IREAD3 in March

  7. Spelling • One test per week on Thursday! Study!!! • Lists sent home on Friday for the following week • Spelling Tic Tac Toe homework card will be sent home with the following week’s list and will be due on the day of the test • Current and following week’s lists posted on classroom website • 15 list words plus 5 word wall words • **Some students may add Challenge Words in October • Dictated sentence - Language grade • www.spellingcity.com

  8. Language Arts • Writer’s Workshop – group lesson and individual support for writing skills • Grammar – addressed in Daily Fix-its, weekly Spelling dictated sentence, discussed in literature, and through Writer’s Workshop • Writing prompt / on-the-spot writing practice

  9. Small Groups (RTI) • Daily for 30 minutes • Students will rotate through skill-specific stations • Mrs. F. will work with small, flexible groups • Title One or remediation may be available during this time

  10. Math • At least 60 minutes per day • Mini lessons to introduce and review skills • Stations for practice • Small group targeted instruction with Mrs. F. • BIG topics: • Know your facts! Multiplication / division in Oct.! • Time to minute and elapsed time • Numbers to 1,000,000 – read, write, use – also place value • Money – counting and making change • Problem solving!!!! • Fractions – reading, creating, equivalent, adding/subtracting • Decimals – reading from models, converting from fractions • Measurement – metric and customary • Geometry – 3D shapes, triangles, polygons, perimeter, area, volume

Rules and Policies • Room 27 Virtues (see handout): • Be Respectful • Be Responsible • Be Safe • Discipline Book • Homework (see handout) • Not graded – please work with your child! • Communication • Finishing incomplete classwork – “CW” • What you can expect: • Math skill practice due Wednesday • Weekly Tic Tac Toe card – due Thursdays • Study for Thursday’s Spelling Test • Weekly Math Fact Practice & Reading Log – due Fridays • Reread Reading story on Thursday nights for Friday open book test • Other – studying for tests, other relevant work • CG has gone “treat-free” (see handout) • Birthdays – students invited to bring in a favorite read aloud to share

  13. Lunch and Snacks • 12:15-12:45 • Check in at office, meet us outside the cafeteria • You may charge your lunch to your child’s account. • No fast food • Bring in a healthy snack daily (see handout)

  14. Citizenship • Grades based on logs in Discipline Book • See handout on our “Viking Virtues” classroom and school-wide expectations

  15. Technology • 1:1 student laptops! 10 flip cameras! 10 microphones! • We LOVE technology in Room 27!!! • Students will use technology daily!
