GROWTH MONITORING INDICATORS • Tool for growth assessment is the growth chart • WHO Child Growth Standards, 2006/7 for boys and girls aged 0 to 60 months • Based on healthy breastfed infants and young children from diverse ethnic backgrounds and cultural settings
GROWTH MONITORING INDICATIORS • Indicators for growth monitoring (percentile and z-score curves) include: • length/height-for-age • weight for-age • weight-for-length • weight-for-height and • body mass index (BMI)-for-age
GROWTH MONITORING INDICATIORS – cont’d • Head circumference-for-age • arm circumference-for-age (3 to 60 months) • triceps skinfold-for-age (3 to 60 months) • subscapularskinfold-for-age (3 to 60 months)
DEVELOPMENTAL MONITORING • Based on age • Developmental assessment recommended at well child visits • Developmental screening using brief, standardised and validated instruments • Parents’ Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) • Development surveillance by paediatricians
