Features Geographically, the NDM constitutes a large area of approximately 126 747km, making it the largest District in South Africa The District is characterised by large open semi-arid land, with small towns centred around activities such as mining, tourism and agriculture The area has significant environmental resources (sensitive species, biomes and flora) and has been identified for tourism growth and conservation activities.

Natural Resources The Orange River is arguably the areas most significant natural resource, as it feeds the region’s agricultural activities and the alluvial diamond mines (e.g. at Alexander Bay). The Atlantic Ocean to the West is ideal for fishing, due to the cold Benguelacurrent. The area consists largely of semi-arid land,that is popular for its natural flora, with the flower route being one of the main tourism initiatives of the area. The undeveloped nature and climate of the area makes it ideal for star-gazing The climate of the area gives it a competitive advantage for renewal energy generation ability to make development sustainable—to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” Brundtland Commission . “

Transformation of administrative and financial systems of NDM and Relevant B-Municipalities, which includes Supply Chain Management Clean Audits for all 6 Municipalities in 2014 Building municipal capacity to enable municipalities to collect their revenue Ensure Sustainable Economic and Social Transformation in the District
