2. Demographics • Othello has a population of 6500 • Serve more than 20,000 people in a 400-square mile area. • Large agricultural area • Many migrant farm workers

4. Community Partner • Columbia Basin Health Association • Two clinics in Othello • One clinic in Mattawa (43 miles west of Othello) • Just opened new dental clinic in Connell • On staff 14 physicians and 8 Physician assistants

5. Our solution • Worked together to improve access to patients health care records so the health care team could deliver appropriate care at all times.

6. Challenges • Network Speed. • No fiber optic. Using T-1 lines • Worked together along with ------ and brought fiber optic capabilities to hospital and clinics.

7. Challenges • Two separate systems • Hospital has Meditech • Clinic has Centricity • Copied patient information going back and forth between clinic and hospital • No one available on weekends/after hours at clinic • Difficult to read documentation

9. Solution • No expensive interfaces • Opened firewalls to allow desktop accessibility to both systems • HIPPA compliant with monitoring • At the point of care real time accessibility to records

10. What does this mean for patients? • Continuity of care throughout the community • Most recent data readily accessible • Emergency room physicians able to obtain clinic data • Clinic physician able to access real time information from clinic or home
