PEP MD Items • So far done: • Commissioned Trickle Charge Operation • Lowered HER beta_y* by 1 mm • Got 4-1 going & raised HER Vrf to 15.3 MV • Raised (inadvertently) LER Vrf to 3.8 MV • Steered the HER, this also reduced the beta_x beat • Tested but not implemented the HER beta_x beat knobs • January performance ≈ 10/fb/mo for 30-day month (need 13) U. From our 8-Jan PEP meeting: • To make 430/pb average lumi/day we need • Peak L of about 9.25E33 • This can be achieved e.g. with • Both ßy* lowered by 10% • 2.25 A on 1.53 A in 1600 bunches. • Need more rf voltage to gain from lower ßy* (18 MeV in HER) • We may need to deploy more SLAC klystrons to get there • New item: HER trickle charge • Benefits may be similar to LER trickle charge • Need to study injection first U. (Spec.) Lumi vs beam currents still suggests raising HER current and/or lowering its beta* should help • Saturation more pronounced with LER current than with HER current • Do we need to quantify this? • OTOH: The HER tune shifts are estimated to be significantly lower than those of the LER • Estimates differ but the general trend is the same • If so, then pushing HER tune shift up in Y should bring significant gains. • How can we make the HER more tolerant of large (y) tune shifts? • Exploring y tune space may help finding better spot with larger acceptance • Fixing the HER ßx beat may help acceptance • Lowering LER ßy may help if HER x limits U.
