Building Program vs. IMAGE Services • Summer building program services are offered for 30 instructional days each year • Students who attend a building program for only one day can be counted as “Served” • IMAGE Services = IMAGE students are required to receive 10 hours of direct instruction to be counted as “Served”

16. IMAGE Teacher & Parapro Responsibilities

17. IMAGE Teachers • Will monitor the parapros under their supervision at all times and delegate teaching responsibilities accordingly. • Formulate a schedule that best meets the family’s needs. • Is responsible for preparing the lessons for their IMAGE students. • Must communicate directly with the TR Clerk to confirm that students are clear to be served by IMAGE. • Are responsible to complete all paperwork associated with the IMAGE program. • Must make sure that all materials and equipment are turned in to the director at the end of the season.

18. IMAGE Parapros • Will receive all assignments from their supervising teacher. • Report any concerns related to the student(s) they are assigned to work with. • Support their supervising teacher to meet the academic needs of each IMAGE student.

19. Role of the Transfer Record Clerk

20. TR Record Clerk • Will provide the IMAGE teacher with the names of the students enrolled in the summer building program to prevent duplication of services. • Will provide the IMAGE teacher with names of those students who are not attending the summer building program so that IMAGE services can be offered. • Will input all necessary documents into the OMSIS II Database through the Web Direct system.

21. Role of the Recruiter

22. Recruiter • Determines student eligibility for MEP services • Will promote the summer school building program and the IMAGE services to the families. • Can be available to introduce the IMAGE team to the migrant worker/families.

24. COE • The COE validates the migratory status of the students and the family. • No IMAGE services can be provided until you have a valid COE in your possession. • When in doubt, check in your Google Drive for most up to date information. You can also contact the OMEC office.

27. Basic Eligibility Criteria

28. Migrant Child MEP Student Eligibility: • Under the age of 22 years old • Has not graduated from US High School or earned a GED • Made a qualified move* within the last 36 months as migratory agricultural worker/migratory fisher (OR) • Made a qualified move within the last 36 months with or to join a parent/guardian/spouse that is a migratory agricultural worker/migratory fisher. * a move due to economic necessity, from one residence to another, across school district lines. FOR MEP PURPOSES, legal paperwork to prove that the qualified worker is guardian or spouse is not required.

29. Migrant Agricultural Worker (MAW) A person who…: • Made a qualified move* within the last 36 months AND • Engaged in new temporary or seasonal employment or personal subsistence in agriculture soon after the move. OR • Actively sought such new employment (soon after the move) and has a recent history of moves for temporary or seasonal employment * a move due to economic necessity, from one residence to another, across school district lines.

30. Migratory Fisher A person who…: • Made a qualified move* within the last 36 months AND • Engaged in new temporary or seasonal employment or personal subsistence in fishing soon after the move. OR • Actively sought such new employment (soon after the move) and has a recent history of moves for temporary or seasonal employment * a move due to economic necessity, from one residence to another, across school district lines.

31. Migratory Fisher • Temporary or Seasonal employment or personal subsistence in agricultural or fishing. • Temporary-lasts for a limited period of time, usually a few months but not longer than 12 months. • Seasonal- occurs during a certain part of the year because of the cycles of nature and by nature cannot be continuous or carried out throughout year. • Personal Subsistence-worker and family consume a substantial portion of crops, dairy products or livestock they produce or fish they catch as a matter of economic necessity.

However, does not include animals raised for sport, recreation, research, service, or pets.

42. Important Strategies to Remember • Always check-in with someone you trust at each location when you first arrive. • Always park your vehicle so it is pointing towards the exit. • If you notice people drinking or behaving erratically, come back on a different day. • Check weather forecast.

44. H-2A Workers • Foreign workers who are legally here on a temporary visa • Most ag workers on H-2A visas come from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Haiti • Mostly a single male workforce • Some workers are as young as 18 years old
