  2. Themes • Medieval social life was not based on equality. There were distinct rights and responsibilities for each class. • The peasants had very little influence in medieval society.

  3. Bishop of Adalbero of Laon • When did Bishop Adalbero write this description? What was he describing? • What classes did he identify in Medieval Europe? • How did the three groups serve each other? How were they interdependent? • Did he think this system was fair?

  4. Famine Among the Peasants • Where and did this famine (as described by Ralph Glaber) take place? • What caused the famine? • What were the effects of the famine?

  5. Peasant Rebellion • Where and when did this rebellion (as described by William of Jumieges) take place? • Why did the Normans rebel? • What were their plans if the were successful in this rebellion? • How did the nobles (Richard & Ralph) view the serfs and feudal class system? • What happened to the rebels?

  6. Anti-Semitism • When and where did these events take place? • What were the Jews accused of? What evidence did the chronicler of these events present? • With a lack of evidence, why did the monks accuse the Jews? What does this tell you about Medieval society?
