Intro to Game Design Week 16 – Final Presentation By Ashley Bucksbaum
My game revolves around a lab researcher named Survivor 23. • After a fatal accident from a test gone wrong at the Red Queen Developmental Research Facility, most of the lab staff have either died, gone missing, or transformed – into mindless creatures. As a result from the test, a virus has been unleashed. • Being unaffected, it is your job to find out what happened, and most importantly, how to fix this plague. • The main goal is to travel to seven locations, as directed by a man known as the Mad Hatter, in order to collect seven strains of the virus in order to create a vaccine. Concept
However, in order to achieve this goal, Survivor 23 will have a variety of weapons,as well as power ups to aid in combat. • These include Telepathy – which allows you temporally stun your opponent for one turn. Combat will have turn based style similar to Final Fantasy, Pokémon, and Fire Emblem, in order to have a consistency of order. • As for Power Ups, there will be a variety of health boosters which will restore up to 25%, 50%, or 100% of health. • There will also be an infect meter – a new concept I took from Pyrexia: Magic the Gathering. You can be killed or kill opponents with the infect ability (but it only does a small amount of damage at a time). Players will have to keep an eye out on their health and infect meter. Abilities/Power Ups - Concept
In this game there are a variety of opponents. These include the Horde (infected people with the virus much like zombies), Black Cats, Ravens, Mosquitoes, and Level Bosses (each in tune to their level). • I still have yet to design each of these in Inkscape, but I will design the full Sprites sometime in the future. Opponents - Concept
For my prototype game, I will be taking on a Vector/Cartoonish look in order to exemplify the overall theme of the game. • For a majority of my graphics, I will be using the programs Inscape and Adobe Illustrator. Design - Approach
I’m trying to aim for a background that is 8-bit reminiscent of game such as Pokémon, Zelda, or Fire Emblem. Background - Inspiration
At the moment, I have designed a prototype background for the forest based off some free resource stock images I found online. Actual Design
I really like the old Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Series Combat and Dialogue appearance. Hopefully I can implement the very same aesthetics into my own design. Combat/Dialogue – Inspiration Reference
My interface has taken on a bold, graphic look. However, it is too much of an eyesore so I will probably simplify it much more. Interface - Design
In order to keep progress of my development, I have created a Wiki space page that will be home to everything regarding this game. • I will probably continue working on this and simplifying all aspects of the game, as well as posting graphics from time to time there. Check it out if you have the time – as it dates all my beginning concepts ideas. WikiSpace – Continuing… This semester has taught me a lot regarding elements of design.
