Reinventing High Schools • Establish a clear system goal of career and college readiness for all students; Dramatically improve how and where academic content is taught; Create incentives for students to pursue the core curriculum in an interest-based context; Support high quality teaching in all content areas source: Association of Career and Technical Education, Jan 06 • Establish clear and rigorous standards aligned with curricula and entrance requirements to post-secondary ed and careers; emphasize project-based learning; connect curriculum to real-world context source: A Call to Action, Transforming High School for All Youth, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation • Secondary Reform in Jeffco – high expectations with rigor, relevance and relationships through Pre-AP and multiple pathways.

  8. Crosswalks • Agriculture Science in Colorado Director for Ag at CCCS brought together teams of science and Ag teachers statewide. Academic, technical and workplace skills are in web-based crosswalk. Teachers can click on any content and all references pop-up. teachers are adding resources to website this summer • Warren Technical Center Teachers have spent one year in development of crosswalks in 20 CTE programs of Auto Tech & Collision, Welding, Construction, Power Equipment, Masonry, International Business, Hospitality, Culinary, Cosmetology, Med Prep, Graphic Design, Multi Media, Digital Video Production, Dental. Process involved faculty and district academic directors, coordinators and content experts.

  9. 8Basic Shielded Metal Arc I WEL 103 4.0 • Follow shop safety practices. • Maintain a clean, safe work area. • Prepare assigned records. • Follow assigned instructions to complete work assignments. • Participate in assigned fabrication projects. • Perform safety inspections on SMAW equipment • Make minor external repairs as necessary to SMAW equipment. • Set up for shielded metal arc welding operations on plain carbon steel. • Operate shielded metal arc welding equipment. • Perform plate-padding operations on plain carbon steel utilizing E-6010 electrodes. • Make fillet welds, all positions on plain carbon steel utilizing E-6010 electrodes. • Examine tack and completed welds. • Execute corrective actions to repair surface flaws on welds and base metals. • Recognize the fundamental principles of the SMAW process. • Explain the fundamental principles of the SMAW process. • Select layout tools. • Layout parts using advanced measurement practices.

  11. Developed Academic CTE Courses • Algebra Principles in Business Year long course matching Algebra 1 content and curriculum maps. Business teachers partners with math to team teach or mentor each other. Written by a math content team expert and revised with business/math teachers. In operation since 2000. in 15 high schools. • Geometry Principles in Construction Year long course with geometry credit written by retired math teacher through Red Rocks Community College Construction department. Funded by an NSF grant. In operation 2 years and in 9 high schools in Jeffco and technical center in Denver. • Eng 12 Communications Tech in Business Year long senior level course written by 2 LArts and 2 business teachers from separate schools. Emphasis on writing and presentation skills with business involvement in the interviewing process. In operation prior to 2000, revised and now in 3 high schools. Will be the ACE/WES Eng 12 class next year in all schools.

  12. Adding Academic Content to CTE • CADD Drafting Started with crosswalk of national CADD standards and district math performance expectations. Team was high school CADD, district content expert, community college academy teacher and retired math specialist. Only using, senior level course of CAD 202 to add advanced math modeling. Piloting next year. • Process Tech Similar team make-up starting with identification of modules of petroleum, carbonated beverages, medical and semiconductors cross-referencing with science performance expectations. Modules identified by industries in Colorado. Optional modules in food science, forensics & waste water management. Hope to have science credit by fall.

Middle College Developed middle college (early) with Red Rocks Community College • Students selected by teacher Rec, GPA, ACT • Students apply and take Accuplacer • Students take English 121 and/or Math 121 • Students continue CTE at Warren Tech • Parents pay or gain tuition assistance through free/reduced lunch status

  14. Honors & At-Risk • Honors status with increased academics in Project Lead the Way and Teacher Cadet • Alternative Cooperative Education for at-risk and special ed moving to CTE pathways of Med Prep, Business and Technical Using district performance expectations to align CTE academic, computer and career courses in pathways. Worked with teams of teachers and assistant principals. Accessed Tech Prep grant for training and resources.
