Pie Charts – Drawing – Messenger!

1. Pie Charts – Drawing – Messenger! In this activity, one student at a time acts as a messenger for their team (2+ students). Without running (!), they relay information about the questions (posted around the room) to their teammates who then answer them. Students need to record the question letter and the answer so they can mark their work using the answer slide at the end of the activity. With the points system, students can attempt appropriate questions. You could choose posters/questions to include and delete others. (Clear plastic wallets around your classroom make it quick and easy to display posters.)

2. Printing To print handouts from slides - Select the slide from the left. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Current Slide’ To print multiple slides - Click on a section title to highlight all those slides, or press ‘Ctrl’ at the same time as selecting slides to highlight more than one. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Selection’

4. In teams pick a messenger! It’s their job to collect questions for the rest of the team to answer. You can change who is the messenger but only one person is allowed to stand up at once and they can’t carry a pen or paper to the question! Each question is worth a different number of points! Record the question letter and your answer on a single piece of paper. After marking, the team that scores the most points wins! 10

6. Question C Question D 4 3 The pie chart represents 80 people’s pets. How many people had a parrot? The pie chart represents 96 people’s favourite music. How many people liked pop music? = parrot = pop

7. Question E Question F 4 4 Josh surveyed 30 people about their favourite food. If Josh made a pie chart, how many degrees would represent one person? Adam surveyed 60 people about their favourite sport. If Adam made a pie chart, how many degrees would represent one person?

8. Question G Question H 4 4 Fran surveyed 90 people about their hobbies. If Fran made a pie chart, how many degrees would represent one person? George surveyed 120 people about their favourite shops. If George made a pie chart, how many degrees would represent one person?

9. Question I Question J 5 5 Dan surveyed 90 people about their favourite hobby. 10 people said they liked art. If Dan made a pie chart, how many degrees would represent art? 13. Question Q Question R 10 10 Robert surveyed students about their favourite teacher. Use the information to draw a pie chart. Mike surveyed 720 people about their bedtime. Use the information to draw a pie chart.

14. Question S Question T 11 12 Jamie surveyed people about their maths results. There were three times as many people that got over 80% than got under 40%. There were twice the amount of people who got 40% to 80% than got under 40% Draw a pie chart to show this. The ratio of people who study French, German and Spanish is 4 : 5 : 9 Draw a pie chart to show this.

16. Question W Question X 14 14 In a survey of 500 people, 230 said they liked watching football, 180 said they preferred tennis, and 90 people said they liked watching rugby. Calculate the angle for each sport if the data was put into a pie chart. Out of the whole school population, 34 students wanted a new theatre, 41 wanted a new sports field, 18 wanted new classrooms and 31 wanted a new cafeteria. Calculate the angle for each choice if the data was put into a pie chart.
