  3. GC Network Accounts • All new users are assigned Network Accounts with usernames and passwords • Usernames are the initial of the first name and the full last name, i.e. jdoe • Common usernames have a number added, i.e. jdoe2

  4. GC Account Set-up • You will be assigned an account username 3-5 days after registration • Go to the GC Portal (www.gc.cuny.edu/Portal) • Click Self-Service Banner Login • Login with your Banner ID and PIN to get your initial password and email address

  5. GC Account Set-up • Click Personal Information, then click View GC Network Account and GC Email Address

  6. GC Account Set-up • You must select a new password that contains the following: • 8 to 15 characters • at least one upper case letter • at least one lower case letter • at least one number or special character • New passwords expire every 180 days

  7. To Change Your Password • Log on to a GC Windows PC, press Ctrl, Alt, Deleteat the same time, then click Change Password • Visit the Help Desk (Library second floor) with a valid GC ID • Scan your valid GC ID and send it to helpdesk@gc.cuny.edu

  8. GC Email Accounts • Your GC email address is: username@gc.cuny.edu • Email quota is 2GB • To access, open Outlook on any GC computer • To check your email remotely, use Outlook Web Access (OWA) • Go to GC Portal, click GC Email • Go directly to wa.gc.cuny.edu

  9. GC Public Computers • Computers are located in the C level, library, and student labs • Available computers: • Dell desktops running Windows 7 • Apple Macsrunning Lion

  10. GC Printers • Printers are available for students in the library and student areas • Printer release stations are in the library • Printers in the program offices are for faculty and staff use only

  11. Wireless Access • There are two wireless networks at the Graduate Center: • the GCcommunity wireless network is secured and encrypted (GC username and password required) • the GCguest wireless network is unsecured and unencrypted

The Help Desk • The Help Desk is the central point of technical support • Hours of operation: Academic Year (September – May) • Mon – Thurs: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. • Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. • Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Summer (June – August) • Mon – Fri: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. • Help Desk Self Service is available through the GC Portal

  13. GC Portal • The GC Portal (www.gc.cuny.edu/Portal) provides links to many IT services

  14. CUNY Portal • Go to GC Portal, click CUNY Portal to access: • Blackboard • CUNY Alert • Events • Directories • CUNY eMall discounts

  15. Remote Computing • Citrix XenApp provides remote access to: • Your GC personal network storage • Various software applications • Go to GC Portal, click Remote Computing

  16. Graduate Center IT Website • Explore the GC IT website (it.gc.cuny.edu)for more information about IT resources

  17. Knowledge Base • GC Online IT Knowledge Base (aka Right Answers) provides information on a variety of IT topics • Go to GC website, click IT, then click Knowledge Base

  18. Training and Development • Training opportunities on new technologies offered to the GC community • Go to GC website, click IT, then click Training to register online
