  1. Benefits Of Learning Music Theory

  2. Introduction If you’re starting to pick up a musical instrument or a beginner, the first thing you may have been advised to learn music theory, the study of the grammar of music. Music theory examines the elements that construct a piece of music, including notation, key signatures, time signatures, and chord progressions. Many teachers will insist that music theory is a fundamental tenet of balanced music education and may even include theory as part of their lessons. On the other hand, some believe that learning music theory does not make one a better player it all depends on the practice that they do and hence find it unnecessary. There are many guitar players who try to learn independently without having guitar lessons in Franklin for some reason take pride in it. Some of these people believe that doing so will create a unique sound for themselves, something that nobody can teach. While this could possibly happen by accident, almost always gaps are left in the web of knowledge as they try to progress to more advanced levels of guitar playing. Unfortunately, the biggest gap that can be found in these guitarist players is their knowledge of music theory .

  3. Song writing Many people claim that songwriting is something that always comes from the heart and soul. There are many stories of people waking up in the middle of the night to write down something that they imagined in their dreams. More often than not these songwriters are incredibly well versed in music theory, and their stylistic choices that create catchy melodies and cool chord progressions are well thought out. Reading music and knowing basic theory is not the same thing. While there is a lot of creativity in songwriting, understanding the basics of music theory is a very strong tool and catalyst for aspiring songwriters to achieve the sounds that they hear in their heads. knowing music theory helps us hasten the learning process. a clear understanding of how the piece is constructed helps us learn faster, much like how knowing a street map enables us to drive more efficiently. We will be able to find large-scale repetitions and formal landmarks that help us get familiar with the piece. This makes the piece easier to memorize as well. theory knowledge, coupled with strong aural skills, allows songwriters to transcribe by ear any pieces they like that aren’t available in sheet music or for their instruments. With these aural skills, songwriters can identify the chords involved, the key changes and chord progressions will help songwriters write music that sounds complete and melodious to our ears.

  4. Understanding other instruments It is ideal to have musicians playing instruments other than guitars like piano, bass, drums, or any other instrument, one thing remains constant. You guessed it – music theory. Understanding other instruments does not necessarily mean learning how to play them. Being fluent in theory is a major component of that understanding. For example, a guitarist who can not play drums to be able to explain the theory side of what sound he wants is easier and faster than any other method while drummers rarely play in isolation; they often complement the melody and harmony. They play important roles in outlining different sections of songs. Hence, knowledge of song form or structure is as important as a solid knowledge of rhythm. To follow a song form, drummers need to be able to follow chords, key changes, and melodies in the other parts of the piece. being able to articulate the complexities of rhythms, keys, and notes can get a bass player, a piano player, and a guitar player on the same page significantly faster, without any of the players having to decode the ramblings of someone who didn’t have a guitar teacher who taught the theory .

  5. Conclusion Learning music theory is akin to understanding the rules that govern the language of music.
