General tips • Read through the code lists, highlight/make margin notes • Try/give coders some test examples and audit them • Have all documents handy, plus a workstation with internet and ABS PDFs • If entering all raw responses, code on a spreadsheet not on paper • Sort your forms by maj1/program/department • On spreadsheets: sort and resort your data

ANZSIC tips • Beware of government health and teaching depts • Code as Education if a Teacher in the Dept of Ed not Govt • If a Radiographer works in a Hospital code as Hospital, not Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging services • Public sector agencies: not all under government administration, browse the code frame • Diversified companies: • a) pick the main business, • b) use the occupation as a guide, • c) code by field of study

11. ANZSIC Codes • REMINDER • GCA DO NOT use all codes • If you use the extended document from the ABS Australian and New Zealand Standard Industry Classification 2006 • Check the code you need is in GCAs code frame • If not code up to the next umbrella code • Eg.
