  2. This presentation gives a brief description of the American National Biography Online It tells you what the American National Biography Online is how it can help you how to look for information in it The presentation will take about 4 minutes

  3. It was first published in 1999 in 24 volumes. The landmark American National Biography offers portraits of more than 18,700 men and women -- from all eras and walks of life - whose lives have shaped the American nation. The online edition is now updated every 6 months with new biographies and revisions of previously published entries. Hundreds of biographies are added every year. www.anb.org

  5. The left column in the biography contains links to other related biographies… Notice that you can print and email any article. You can also copy and paste citation information easily. www.anb.org

  6. You can also see related entries from the Oxford Companion to United States History. www.anb.org

  7. You can search for people who were involved in a particular field, or from a particular state. Click on the Search tab. www.anb.org

  8. Select occupation and home state. www.anb.org

  9. 41 people from Michigan who were involved in science and technology. www.anb.org

  10. Practice Now you have had a brief introduction, why not explore for yourself? Have a go at finding the answers to these questions. Where was Jeremiah Dixon born? How many entries does a search for ‘watergate’ return? Who was Ira Hayes? How many people born in Louisiana from the field of sports and games are featured?
