Whiskey Rebellion • Hamilton encouraged Congress to tax the manufacture of whiskey • Western farmers were mad • Rebellion began • Farmers harassed tax collectors • ^^ stopped court proceedings • ^^ robbed the mail • ^^ destroyed stills of those who paid the tax • Washington sent 15,000 troops to end the rebellion; it ended without a fight • Some people were scared bc the gov used its troops against its own civilians
