INVESTIGATION OF ATMOSPHERIC OZONE IMPACTS OF SELECTED PESTICIDES Objectives • Reduce uncertainties in O3 impacts for pesticides in California Approach • Conduct chamber experiments for 4 selected pesticide VOCs • Develop mechanisms for pesticide compounds chosen for study, and estimate mechanisms for other pesticide compounds • Incorporate mechanisms into current or updated SAPRC mechanism and calculate atmospheric reactivities • Make recommendations on how to represent pesticide compounds in airshed models Status • Project approved. Should begin in June, 2005 Atmospheric Impacts of Coatings VOCs

Pesticide ProjectDiscussion • One-year project should begin in June • Priority of compounds to study will be determined in subsequent meetings with CARB staff and Pesticide stakeholder groups • Only compounds with sufficient volatility (greater than ~ 5 ppm) will be studied • Experimental approach will probably be similar to that used for Coatings reactivity study • Some pesticides will require use of SAPRC mechanism with chlorine chemistry (being developed under current contract) Atmospheric Impacts of Coatings VOCs
