The United Nations General Assembly declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. The call was initially made by Indian Prime Minister Mr. NarendraModi during his address to UN General Assembly. http://vaikundarajanblog.blogspot.in
Why 21st June? Vaikundarajan answers, “21st June is also the longest day of the year and has special significance in different countries across the world.” http://vaikundarajans.blogspot.in
He further explains the story behind yoga. “21st June is the day of summer solstice. Adiyogi, the first yogi, turned south and set his eyes on Seven Sages who were his disciples to carry the science of yoga across the world.” http://vaikundarajans.wordpress.com
The support for an International Yoga Day was tremendous as 175 countries co-sponsored the resolution. Addressing thousands of people gathered at Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex, PM NarendraModi launched the 2nd International Yoga Day celebrations on Tuesday. http://vaikundarajanblog.blogspot.in
“Over 30000 people were estimated to have participated in the event. The theme of this year was “Connect the Youth,” adds Vaikundarajan. In today’s stress filled times, yoga can bring a much needed balance to life. “To be recognized as an International Day, this is a proud moment for us,” concludes Vaikundarajan. http://vaikundarajans.blogspot.in
