Cars taking over our lives • Before cars were invented, travelling a few kilometres would take a long time. • People either had to walk, bike, ride horses or use a horse and cart. • People could choose to live further away from their workplace • People could now take a car to work and travel a lot faster. Emergency service can arrive quickly Before cars – help for an emergency could take a long time to come.
On the road again • Roads and motorways are now part of towns and cities • Cars need to travel on roads and motorways. As more cars were built so there was the need for more roads and motorways. • Petrol stations are found in every town. More cars means more petrol being used. Pollution has increased because more cars on the road equals more pollution
Ford Takes Over • The car introduced the assembly line • Henry Ford owner of the Ford cars invented the assembly line which was a very efficient way to build cars. • The assembly line was invented on Decmember the 1st 1913
BACK TO THE ROAD • People can travel to wherever they want. Before cars were invented travel was difficult as they only could walk, ride or take the train. To travel long distances people used to take trains • You need a licence to prove you can drive. Now you need to sit a test and carry a licence to show you have passed the driving test
