3 Types of Faults 1. Normal Fault The Hanging wall moves down and the falling wall moves up
Types of Faults 2. Reverse Fault The Hanging wall moves up and the falling wall moves down
3 Types of Faults Strike – Slip Fault The two walls move across each other.
After Shock After shock is quake of lesser magnitude, usually one of a series, following a large earthquake.
Magnitude • The Richter Scale (1-8) • Developed by Charles Richter in 1935 • 1 Usually not Felt • 2 Felt by few • 3 Feels like a passing vehicle • 4 Felt by most, walls crack • 5 Felt by all, furniture moves • 6 Moderate Damage, walls collapse • 7 Major damage, foundations shift • 8 All structures fall
