  2. TSWBAT describe the Fall of the Byzantine Empire by analyzing a video clip and discussing their ideas and opinions in class; define Feudalism and explain the social classes involved. Date: Tuesday February 25 Warm up: What reasons can you think of that would begin the fall of the Byzantine Empire? Then, watch The Fall of the Byzantine Empire Video clip Activity: Quiz on Byzantine Empire; short PPT on definition of Feudalism and social classes of the Feudal period

  3. Feudalism a social system that existed in Europe during the Middle Ages in which people worked and fought for nobles who gave them protection and the use of land in return

  4. Pope/Church • : the head of the Roman Catholic Church; the most powerful position during the Feudal period

  5. Monarch • : a person (such as a king or queen) who rules a kingdom or empire

  6. Nobles • : having, showing, or coming from personal qualities that people admire (such as honesty, generosity, courage, etc.) • : of, relating to, or belonging to the highest social class : of, relating to, or belonging to the nobility

  7. Knights • : a soldier in the past who had a high social rank and who fought while riding a horse and usually wearing armor • : a man who is given a special honor and the title of Sir by the king or queen of England

  8. Vassals • :  a person under the protection of a feudal lord to whom he has vowed homage and fealty :  a feudal tenant • :  one in a subservient or subordinate position

  9. Merchants • : someone who buys and sells goods especially in large amounts and trades these goods to turn a profit

  10. Craftsmen • : a person (especially a man) who is very skilled at doing something or building something

  11. Peasants • : a poor farmer or farm worker who has low social status • : a person who is not educated and has low social status

  12. Serfs • a person in the past who belonged to a low social class and who lived and worked on land owned by another person

TSWBAT review the make-up of the class structure; explain dominance within the structure; complete research Date: ThursdayFebruary 27 Warm up: Complete Venn diagram from reading assignment (graded); check for completed 10 questions from yesterday Activity: Introduce medieval social structure; Choose a medieval social class at random and begin research and worksheet (must complete 12 of the 19 questions for credit– you choose)

TSWBAT review the make-up of the class structure; explain dominance within the structure; complete research Date: FridayFebruary 28 Warm up: Review the pyramid while computers load; there were very few member in the Monarchy, but a lot in the peasant class Activity: Choose a medieval social class at random and begin research and worksheet

TSWBAT analyze a video to compare and contrast the concepts of the social structure; create a poster, collage, or skit Date: TuesdayMarch 4 Warm up: Robin hood clip: discuss main concepts, social structure, who is who, hardships endured by the common people Activity: Finalize project (time to work with groups and complete collage or skit)

Date: Wednesday March 5 Warm up: 5 minutes to finalize presentation and to save on Ms. Shaheen’sflashdrive! Fill in life chart for the social groupyou did with your group! Activity: Give Ms. Shaheen your 14 questions before you Present PPT to the class; Complete chart during presentations
