The questions… 1) Are we doing what is necessary to prepare students to belong and succeed in their community? 2) Is their community ready to support them to belonging and succeeding in reaching their post-secondary goals? 3) How do we know?

ACE Project Achieving Competitive Employment Region 1 Transition Services, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Grand Rapids & Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids MTSA / MRS Collaborative Project
ACE Project ~ Why? Research ~ Students who have a job prior to high school graduation have greater employment success life-long. Students working toward their MMC diploma while receiving educational supports rarely have time in their schedules for much transition preparation or work-based learning programs. The increase in students diagnosed with ASD presents a greater need for support with community integration and functional skill development.
ACE Project Achieving Competitive Employment • Comprehensive Work-Based Learning • Students in Transition Specific Programs • Team with R1TS Program • Take over support once student becomes competitively employed and exits R1TS • HS Students working toward their MMC diplomas • Team with LEA staff • Support WBL after-school hours as a 0 hour or 6th hour class • MRS ~ 90 day follow-up before case is closed • Goodwill ~ 180 day follow-up before case is closed • Plus additional 180 day follow-up to better ensure retention
