  2. INTRODUCTION Where are we and what comes NEXT?

  3. We are here.

  4. The time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 2 Timothy 4:4 We are here. And what comes NEXT?

  5. What comes NEXT is (likely) • More of the Same • …but on steroids • Human Nature • Is not becoming more corrupt • Is finding more opportunity

  6. What comes NEXT is (likely) • An increasingly godless culture • Morally Bankrupt • No Recognized Authority God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. You are not immune!

  7. Rebellion lives in the human heart. When you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God…

  8. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. Romans 1:28-32

  10. …To identify SUPERVISION, ACCOUNTABILITY and SUPPORT as gifts of God in the context of our ongoing human rebellion and, …To encourage a more intentional reliance upon these gifts in whatever comes NEXT.

  11. SUPERVISION Ecclesiastical Structure

  12. The radiation of Earth’s yellow sun gives Kal-El Supervision. God gives you Supervision because He loves you.

  13. THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT Honor your father and your mother. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise or anger our parents and other authorities, but honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them. This is the first commandment with a promise This is the First Commandment of the Second Table

The President has the supervision regarding the doctrine and the administration of a. All officers of the Synod; b. All such as are employed by the Synod; c. The individual districts of the Synod; d. All district presidents.

  19. LCMS Polity - Ecclesiastical Supervisors Article XII Districts of the Synod and Their Regulation 7. The district presidents shall, moreover, especially exercise supervision over the doctrine, life, and administration of office of the ordained and commissioned ministers of their district and acquaint themselves with the religious conditions of the congregations of their district. To this end they shall visit and, according as they deem it necessary, hold investigations in the congregations. Their assistants in this work are the circuit visitors, who therefore shall regularly make their reports to the district president.

  23. What comes NEXT for Ecclesiastical Supervision? • Restructuring? • Limited Resources? • Greater Need?

  24. We submit to proper AUTHORITY / SUPERVISION • In Obedience to God’s Will. • In View of God’s Promises. • As a Testimony to a godless World.

  25. ACCOUNTABILITY Loving One Another

  26. As brother/sisters in Christ we have a responsibility before God: • To provide loving correction • to erring brothers/sisters. • To submit to correction • from loving brothers/sisters.

  28. Brothers, if anyone is caughtin any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2
