ANA Announcements • Current ANA announced to group is 07/1942r10. • All new requests received by end of meeting will be uploaded as 07/1942r11 and announced via 802.11 WG reflector next week after this meeting • Several requests have been received directly from editors this week and acted on in preparation for publishing next version. • Others as may arise before close of WG meeting will be included • Guidance • ANA assignments should be done at the time of moving from WG LB to Sponsor ballot. • If a resource number is not in the ANA Database, please use <ANA> in drafts! • Editors to replace any ANA controlled resources numbers with <ANA> upon incorporation of material into drafts. Terry Cole (AMD)
IEEE Publication Status • IEEE 802.11-2007 published and for sale on IEEE web • Published in Jun 2007 • Combines all existing amendments and includes maintenance work by TGma • No other publications pending (that have been approved by REVCOM) Terry Cole (AMD)
Editor’s Meeting • 100% attendance • Reviewed inter-editor coordination and timelines • No new problems identified • Reviewed and coordinated renumbering project of drafts to align with IEEE 802.11-2007. This project now completed. All baseline references should now be to IEEE 802.11-2007. • Reviewed timeline order. See separate slide. • Discussed Stable Numbering Proposals • See separate slide. Terry Cole (AMD)
Changes from last report shown in red. Amendment Ordering Amendment numbering is editorial! No need to make ballot comments on these dynamic numbers! • Data as of Nov 15 from chairs; official project timelines to be updated to the web • See http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/11/802.11_Timelines.htm Terry Cole (AMD)
Draft Development Snapshot TGz has adopted draft 0.1, and TGmb does not yet have a draft. Changes from last report shown in red. Terry Cole (AMD)
Editorial Streamlining (1) • Focus is on consistency across all TGs: • Stable Sub-Clause Numbering • We had down selected from 3 candidate proposals to 2: “correct” and “sticky”. See 07/2308r1. • We established many criteria for evaluation: reader and voter clarity, REVCOM approval risks, editor labor • Goal was to select method in November. • Discussion • Don’t want to number definitions correctly – perceived to be a waste of time • Editors occasionally will use “sticky” technique (IEEE numbering style to insert material before other draft material) • Motion: Our goal is to use correct numbering, except in definitions. • Unanimously approved • Stable numbering investigation now concluded. Terry Cole (AMD)
Editorial Streamlining (2) • Focus is on consistency across all TGs: • Redlined draft naming convention requested by Vice Chair • Extends already existing naming convention for clean drafts • Reviewed with IEEE staff, CAC, editors, IEEE SA rules and Stds Companion. • Clean draft naming convention: (by example) Draft P802.11aa_D1.0.pdf • Redlined Draft naming convention: (by example) 11-07-4777-00-0000 Redlined Draft P802.11aa_D2.0.pdf Short form implies comparison to previous ballot Draft P802.11aa_D1.0.pdf -OR- 11-07-2999-00-0000 Redlined Draft P802.11aa_D1.0 Compared to Draft P802.11aa_D0.41.pdf • Unanimously approved Terry Cole (AMD)
Editorial Streamlining (3) • Focus is on consistency across all TGs: • Completed • Streamlined ANA processes – 07/0827r0 • Consistent format for REDLINE contributions across TGs – 07/0788r0 • Consistent process for editorial comment resolution across TGs (WG & Sponsor) – 07/2050r0 • Guideline for technical vs. editorial, sample editorial comment responses • Format for comment reporting across TGs (WG & Sponsor) – 07/1990r0 (tool in 07/2116r0) • Stable numbering method (See previous slide) • Consistent naming of redlines (See previous slide) • Under Construction(in priority order) • Recover the editor’s guideline (now requested by chair in Word) • Draft templates for FRAME (no Word) to help train new editors more rapidly • MIB element numbering and compiling • Guideline on non-technical front matter • Guideline describing expected editorial development and maturity of draft through stages in 802.11 for consistency across TGs • Guidelines for primitives Terry Cole (AMD)
