Laws and practicies of companiesin the evaluation of training in France Jean-Pierre Aguer, Christian Lalias, Lysiane Lelue, Solange Ramond, Nathalie Younès
Law and decreesrelating to career guidance and professional training (24 November 2009),to skillassessment and to the validation of what has been learntduring the experience • The traceability of knowledge • A process for the implementation and the evaluation of the training actions • The recognition of what was learnt during the training and during the experience (VAE) • Especially for at risk of unemployment categories
Standards and accreditation • Impact more important of Quality Assurance and accreditation processes • AFNOR = French Standards Authority • ISO standards : 9001 and 9000
The practicies of french companies • The evaluation called « à chaud » (on the spot) based on the point of view of the trainees • The evaluation of the apprenticeships • The evaluation of transferring theory into practice
The evaluationcalled « à chaud » (on the spot) based on the point of view of the trainees • The most used by companies : • almost 100 % use a questionnaire on : • Contents, apprenticeships, trainer, organisation • but only 1/3 produce data to analyse • and few produce indicators and scoreboards • The development of electronic formulas with later analysis
The evaluation of the apprenticeshipscompletedduring the training • Obligatory since 2009 but far from being systematic • More and more a systematic assessment of what has been learnt is conducted • Especially in technical training • Though a knowledge test whose results are compared to those of a similar test taken before the training
The evaluation of the transfert into practice • At least two conditions are requiered : • Take place several weeks or months after the training • Involve not only the trainee but also the manager • Very rare • It’s difficult to isolate the impact of the training from many others factors
Conclusion : a search of effective and efficient tools • A development of the evaluation of training • Essentially dependent on trainees opinion • A movement towards the assessment of learning in technical trainings • Especially under the influence of quality assurance and accreditation processes • And with ICT for data collection, analysis and reporting • Be careful : no « white elephant »
