What you will be able to do after the activity is Completed • What will you be able to do?: You will be able to explain some of the Code of Hammurabi and how this law was implemented/used in Babylonia. • What idea, topic, or subject is important for you to learn and understand so that you can do this?: You will learn some of the law within the Code of Hammurabi and how subjects/people might have been judged during the ancient Babylonian empire. • What you will do to show that you know this?: You will show what you know by reading and answering discussion questions about the ancient court cases, then you will complete a brief writing assignment to demonstrate comprehension regarding Hammurabi's Code as it relates to today.
How to Set Up for the Activity in your Notebook • On page 8 of your notebook, complete the questions attached to the primary sources that you were given for Hammurabi’s code. • Please number the questions. Write them out and answer them as thoroughly as possible with the use of the primary source. When you have completed them please take a copy of the “Laying Down the Law” article, begin to read it you will be using it to help you with the final part of the activity.
Your Assignment: • On page 9 • Directions: Write one to two paragraphs that addresses the following: • Who was the leader of Babylon? • What is he known for? • Describe Hammurabi’s Code (state two facts about the Code). • Why is Hammurabi’s Code important? **Use the article and the answers from the primary source activity to help you. ** Keep your writing assignment in your notebook when done.**
