Overall Game Plan Per Course • Definition of day: min 4 hours, max 14 hours. Number of working days in week: 7. • StateCourse and Unit course objectives—1 to 2 days. Course objectives from Curriculum as determined by Major within a Department; unit objectives usually available from textbook or instructor manual. • Course Architecture—Order of Presentation of Subject Matter--Block out the course down to at least the weekly level based on the course and unit course objectives—2 to 4 days • Develop content—30 to 40 days—Need to select LMS/CMS—Blackboard, Connect, others. Requires hardware and software and expertise with hardware and software. • Manage course during delivery—1/4th to 1/2 day per course per week during semester • Interact with students during delivery—1/8th to ½ day per day, seven days per week, per course during semester • Grade student submissions—1/2 to 2.0 days per course per week during semester. • Assessment/evaluation of course—1 to 2 days during and after semester • NOTE 1: due to long development and total development times, only courses which will be offered very frequently should be delivered in Blended and Online formats. NOT for one-time or courses offered very infrequently. • NOTE 2:Instructors should enroll in and complete the Quality Matters Rubric Certification Course prior to constructing and delivering blended/online courses.
Hardware Considerations • Need Very Powerful Computer (desktop/laptop) • Quad Core Processor (CPU) • 8 GB ddr3 RAM • 750 GB 7200 RPM Hybrid Hard Drive • High end graphics card—2 GB video RAM; high resolution monitor • Blue-Ray read/write drive (also reads/writes DVD/CD’s) • High-Speed LAN port/high speed wireless (10, 100, 1000 mbps) • USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports; hdmi; s-video, video, mike, speaker ports • Dual monitor support—two monitors absolutely essential • High speed color printer/scanner/fax, preferably laser not ink based technology • Camcorder, DigitalVoiceRecorder • Webcam with built-in mike • Headset with microphone • Need access to Apple hardware: iPad, iPodTouch, Iphone
Software Considerations • Useful Software • Office Suite such as MS Office, etc • LMS/CMS such as Blackboard, Connect, MyITLab, etc • Video production software such as Camtasia from Techsmith, Windows movie maker • Screen capture software such as Jing from Techsmith, Print-Key Pro • Multiple media conversion programs • Digital Media Converter • Cucusoft DVD Ripper + Video Converter Ultimate • ImTOO MPEG Encoder 3 • Mini-stream RM-MP3 Converter • iTunes • M4a to mp3 converter • 101 AVI MPEG WMV Converter • OCR such as ScanSoftOmniPage Pro 14.0 • Respondus 4.0 Campus-Wide • Several browsers: IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera • Adobe Acrobat Professional, Adobe Photoshop • Remote computer access software such as LogMeIn from Logmein, Inc. • FTP software • Media players: Windows Media player, RealPlayer, Media Player Classic • Optical burning software Nero Express, LG Power tools, • VPN software—Cisco Anyconnect
Need Places To Store Your Content • Need access to LARGE amounts of network based storage for your course content • Need FTP, HTTP, VPN access to this storage • Currently using 1.5 Terabytes of storage for all courses on just one server, more on others • Servers • Blackboard Content Server (Content Collection) • Blackboard Server • Departmental Server (CBT has server) • Servers provided by Software vendors such as ScreenCast at Techsmith • Need backup devices such as 1 to 2 TB external disk drive • Need several 16 to 32 GB Flash Drives
