Boxford Primary School The Story So Far …..
In the beginning .... • In 1839 the first part of our school was built. • It was built by William Howe. • As a National School it was for all the children from Boxford.
Ten years later the school was too small. A new school for the infants was built further up the road. Children came to the school on our site when they were older and stayed until they went to work between 13 and 15 years old.
We looked for evidence of the school’s history. We had to look very closely at the building and the old building plans.
These are the old building plans of the school This plan show us what the front of the school looked like This is where Mrs Dainty’s Classroom is now This plan shows us where the windows and doors were
We looked in the activity area between rooms 5 and 6 and found evidence of the original doorway • Can you see the arched pattern of the bricks and the concrete lintel?
This picture shows one of the original windows This is the same window from outside. You can see the original concrete moulding.
From the inside…… This is the original doorway …….and from the outside.
This is the outside wall of the old school building which is now in Miss Davey’s classroom. We can’t see any evidence of the old wall because the windows have been blocked up and the walls have been plastered.
