Resignation N. Acceptance of something undesirable but inevitable Abel accepted his fate with resignation; he wasn’t happy about the grade, but there was nothing he could do about it now.
Sodden Adj. Saturated with water The tent leaked and all my clothes were sodden; the camping trip was officially ruined.
Lacerate V. To tear or cut deeply Some people have the ability to (figuratively) lacerate you with their tone and words. My mom called them sharp-tongued.
Desecrate V. Treat something sacred with disrespect I view tearing or defacing library books as an act of desecration.
Mien N. A person’s look or manner; facial expression Some people just have a mien of authority, and often people will just defer to them without thinking.
Saunter V. Walk in a slow, relaxed manner Students saunter through the halls like they have all day to get to class (when they’re not stopped entirely).
Disconsolate Adj. Miserable; dejected After the loss to Clemson, UGA fans were disconsolate, but Saturday’s win over Spurrier’s Gamecocks made things much better!
