Inour18yearsofservice toindustries, wehavecomeacrossmany abnormalities, incidentandhaveresolved them. Evenwelearnwhilesolvingthe issuesorTrippingincidentsbutsummation ofthesemanyyearsofexperiencehas strengthenustoresolvethistypeof incidentsintime. However, thisisthefirst timewecameacrossthiskindofissue. Here under is the summary: Onalighternote, toourknowledge, mostof theabnormalities, Trippingoroperational problemsinIndustrieshappensonSunday orHolidaysonly. Keepinglegacyalive, this alsooccurredonSundayevening4PMin themonthofFeb2019. ItwasplannedshutdownfromGridsideforaddingnew33kVdistributionlinetotheir substation. Samewasinformedtoalltheconsumers2weeksinadvanceforthisshutdown whichwasscheduledfor2-3hoursincontinuation. Allgoeswellasperschedule, Powerresumedwithin2.5hoursbut…………. Connected Industriesfailedtostart. Reason….? UnhealthyVoltage. AndrelayblockedCircuitbreakersto closepertainingtoUnhealthyVoltage. Then started troubleshooting: TheycheckedPTsupply, foundhealthy. Ifduringshutdown, anymodification/sORChange/smadeinthewiring? No, everything wasasitwas. Theytookallpossiblemeasures, butwaste. Relaykeepissuingtrippingcommand. Worried about the incident, we got distressed call from user: Weenquiredwiththemandaskedwhetherallnecessarymeasureshavebeentaken. Weaskedthemtocheckinrelayconfiguration, butnotnecessarilyplantpeopleknowsit. Weevenadvisedtoreboottherelay, ifincaseitmayhavehanged. ThenweaskedRarecheck. TochangethephasesequenceofIncomingVoltagesupplyin relayforallthecombinationsasRYB, RBY, YRB, YBR, BYR, BRY. Tooursurprise!!!!! WithcombinationRBY, relaycontactgotresetandplantwasstarted. WealsoaskedthemtocheckwithotherplantconnectedtoGRIDwithsamefeedersand found: TheirMotorswererunninginReversedirectionandsamehasleadstocertainissuesrelated toprocess. Addingadditionaldowntime.   3. Theproblemwasidentifiedaschangein PhasesequencemistakenlybyGRIDside duringshutdown. Weadvisedplantpeople tokeeptheoriginalwiringsothatifthis happensagaininfuturethansamecanbe identifyandrectify. Well, wegottheirappreciationasSystem ProtectionhasbeeninvolvedinSelection andRetrofittingofrelays. Iftheplanthas beenstartedwithreversedirectionmore revenuelosswouldhaveregistered. Proper Relay Selection for Equipment’s play a key role in Protecting your plant equipment in the best way. TherelaysensedthePhaseReversalas unhealthyvoltageandtherefore, wasgiving trippingcommands. Underpressure, maintenanceengineerBypassed Undervoltageprotectionandchargedthe panelashewasconcernedabout productionlost. ButwhenRelayisatfault youcan'tevenchangeordisablesetting, andthisisblessingindisguise. Wefeelsorryfortheotherindustrieswho sufferedduetoimproperrelayselection. Damagehasalreadyoccurred. Toavoidthis westronglyrecommend, whileselecting protectiverelayseitherinProjectsor retrofitting, allthepointsmustbe consideredpertainingtoprotectionand processperspective.
