  2. Award History Award was established in 2004 First presented in 2006 Named for the world-renowned children’s author Theodor Geisel (Dr. Suess) Charmed his way into the hearts of everyone for 4 generations Winner Receives a Bronze Medal

  3. Given annually to author(s) and illustrator(s) Most distinguished American book for beginning readers Published in English in the United States during the preceding year Winners recognized for their literary and artistic achievements that demonstrate creativity and imagination Presented at the ALA Annual Conference Award Significance

  4. Organization Award Administration Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) A division of the American Library Association (ALA)

  5. Selection Process Committee appointed by the president of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) Author(s) and illustrator(s) who are citizens or residents of the United States Must be directed at readers from pre-K through Grade 2 Must contain illustrations and demonstrate the story being told Published in English in the United States during the preceding year Sentences must be simple and straightforward There must be a minimum of 24 pages maximum, 96 pages
