Single-Cells • Two main types of single celled organisms: protozoa and bacteria • Can adapt to a wide variety of different environments and comprise more than half of the total biomass on Earth. • Examples: Green Algae, bacteria, Volvox, Sea Sponges
Advantages of a single-celled lifestyle: • Can create all they need for life with just a few nutrients • Can easily stay alive in extreme environments • Can form colonies and work together • Disadvantages of a single-celled lifestyle: • Small in size, cannot form organs like and animal or roots like a plant • No specialized cells • movement, sensory detection, communication, social organization
Multi-cellular organisms: can use their cells to create complex structures that are specialized for different uses. • The organization of cells are used to create tissues organs organ systems organisms.
