Conclusions of the WP • Need and potential for intensified collaboration • Protection of the human rights of prisoners embedded in missions and mandates of all organizations • Strong coverage of communicable diseases; greater coverage needed for noncommunicablediseases • Needed: • Collection of health-specific data • Increased alternatives to incarceration

  6. Involvement of Health Ministries • Closes a gap in national health systems • Has potential to improve observance of prisoners’ right to health • Acknowledges links between prison health & health of surrounding communities • Has potential to improve continuity of care, data collection
