WHAT IS A BOOK TRAILER? It’s a multimedia presentation about a book. Publishers use them to advertise their latest publications (much the same as a movie trailer)- but WE can use them too!!!
Objective: • Students will demonstrate their understanding of the novel, The House of the Scorpion, by creating an engaging multimedia book trailer utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint. • The goal is to entice the viewer into wanting to read the novel.
WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD I INCLUDE??? • CHARACTERS • SETTING • PLOT-BE CAREFUL NOT TO GIVE AWAY THE “CLIMAX” OF THE STORY • TONE/MOOD • THEME • INTERESTING ASPECTS
Your trailer should also include… • A hook to pique your audience’s interest~ make us want to continue watching… • Author and title of the book (pic—preferred) • One or two quotes from the novel (should be interesting, funny, exciting) • A “cliffhanger” element-a question to spark curiosity! • Credits for images, sound effects, music, etc. (last slide of trailer)
PICTURES? MUSIC, VOICE??? • I will give you a list of acceptable websites to find pictures. • You may preview other book trailers to get ideas such as.. booktrailersforreaders.com, authro.com, Youtube, booktrailersforall.com, etc. • I have a file with a variety of music to choose from –OR- choose your own “SCHOOL APPROPRIATE” song. • Mrs. Clark will be available Mon.-Wed. if you are interested in adding narration.
NOW LET’S VIEW SOME TRAILERS!!! • Post-its!!! • Write down any Positive Comments on the Pink post-its. • Write down any Constructive Criticisms on the Yellow post-its. THE GOAL IS TO IDENTIFY ASPECTS THAT WORK AND TO TRY TO EXEMPLIFY THIS IN YOUR TRAILER!
