What is the “Good” in Philosophy? • Achieving the “Good” means you flourish (or become the best you can be) • Example 1: It is “Good” to be an honest person, because being honest pushes you towards being the best person you can be • Example 2: It is “Good” to receive an education, because being educated helps you flourish in life
What are the two classes of Good? • Personal Good: In Philosophy, personal good is focused on an individual person and what it takes for the individual person to flourish • Common Good: In Philosophy, common good, is focused on the larger community/society and what it takes for the larger group to flourish

PhilosophyProject 1.GROUP: Read about the philosophies of three of the great Greek philosophers: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and 1 Christian thinker: Mark 2. GROUP: Become bumper sticker philosophers! Pithy People! Come up with a bumper sticker that summarizes their philosophy. 3. INDIVIDUAL: Write a research paper discussing the four philosophers and their vision of the THE GOOD LIFE.
The end project will have five bumper stickers summarizing each philosopher’s credo, Mark’s, and YOURS. They will also write a paragraph analyzing each philosopher’s vision of the Good Life, Mark’s vision of the Good Life, and YOURS!
