Our Mission—Here, There and Everywhere Acts 1:6-8
Acts 1:6-8 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Huh? Are you shocked that people read the Gospel in different languages around the world? Did you think that people everywhere read the KJV? Did you realize that the Gospel was first spread in 1st century Greek? Did you think that the Gospel was for us only?
Read and Yellow Black and White, They are precious in his sight… Notice Jesus’ agenda: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The book of Acts sets the tone for Christianity through the ages.
What’s our Mission? First let’s get our focus off ourselves. “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.” Lord, the country’s in a mess. My health is failing. My finances are insufficient. I feel bad.
So let’s do this Jesus’ way! If we claim to be Christians, we must follow him. Jesus lays the work out in phases. Logical. Start with local strength—Jerusalem, Judea. Continue to spread the mission—Samaria. To the ends of the world-- Asia, Macedonia, Rome. If the apostles had not taken this seriously, we would all be on our way to hell!
How are you doing with the first step? One hundred+ of us know most people in St Marys and very many in Pleasants County. Invite, invite, invite (make friends). The people we know and love are the people we want to see saved. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16 Newsletter Evangelism.
Can we do anything personally about step two? We can and we can make much improvement there. When is the last time you attended a meeting or a singing at a small church? Remember the Lord is talking to his disciples, ALL of his disciples. How much talent does it take to support a small church effort?
Step three is a church effort Now in the church at Antioch there were pro- phetsand teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So af-terthey had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. Acts 13:1-3a
…but can be individual also. Just in the passed few weeks we’ve had requests from Mrs. Kidder, Mat Bortell and Dan Doak who take two weeks out of their vacation to travel to Central American countries to do good works and evangelism. It’s been such a long time since any of our young or older people have shown an interest.
Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Who is speaking? Does this sound like a suggestion? Are we disciples? Let’s take God’s command and our mission seriously and spread the good news wherever we are.
