6 • The inventive transformation of a simple, common medium into complex form is evocative and original. • There is an excellent consideration of balance, positive and negative space, and unity/variety throughout the body of work. • There is technical excellence and increased investigation of occupied and unoccupied space throughout this concentration. • This work reaches an excellent quality level.
3 • The work presents an investigation of line and form through the use of wire. • Some of the works (images 1, 6 and 9) use line to describe volume and interior shapes while others (images 3, 4 and 8) are concerned with issues of construction and the extension of space. • The wrapped portions serve as punctuation and contrast to the linear segments. • The concentration could have achieved greater success with a more thorough consideration of directionality, line weight and space. • Within the moderate scope of the concentration, the work represents an emerging level of accomplishment.
3 • There is little sense of investigation but the connection between the concentration topic and the work is evident. • Although attention is given to mass, most pieces could benefit from a deeper consideration of occupied and unoccupied space. • Some principles of design such as rhythm and balance are evident, but the scope of the work is narrow and repetitive. • There is an emerging sense of discovery in the evolution of form.
4 • The work in this concentration explores the topic of vessel, form and surface. • While the investigation of form is somewhat limited, the student's use of 3-D design principles activates the surfaces in the work. • In several of the images (3, 8, 10, 11) there is a good investigation of transitions between interior and exterior space. • Throughout the concentration, the work demonstrates a wide variety of approaches to form and surface such as color, value, and various levels of relief. • The concentration commentary supports the artistic intent. • The work is most successful when the surface treatment is clearly in service of the overall form. • Overall the work is of good quality.
6 • The concentration explores form and space using marine life and fractals for inspiration. The work is innovative, expressive and well crafted. • The work is formally excellent using varied mass, voids and rhythm/movement with shifting vantage points to describe form in space. • The concentration moves from simple to complex, using the modest material of paper as the primary medium, increasing in scale and ambition. • The student manipulates the grid in multiple ways, using geometry to describe organic forms. • Color is used thoughtfully to direct attention and emphasize movement. • This is an excellent concentration.
4 • The manipulation of varied appropriated material demonstrates both a good technical competence and developing skills expertise. • The application of design principles such as rhythm, repetition and proportion activate the physical space in an engaging and discernable manner. • The tactile qualities and visual movement echo and enhance the form. • Because of the limited number of pieces, the work would benefit from further exploration of both materials and scope.
