  8. What is the MATT? The MATT is a coach-guided self-assessment tool that allows school teams to progress monitor their initial implementation of Tiers 2 (secondary, targeted) and 3 (tertiary, intensive) behavior support systems within their school.

  9. PBIS Iowa Annual Evaluation • Tier 1 – TIC + SET BOQ • Tiers 2/3 – MATT BAT • BOQ and BAT are reported annually • PBIS Data Collection System opens in May • Required for schools implementing Tiers2/3

  10. MATT answers three questions: 1. Is the Tier 1 level of SWPBIS in place? 2. Are the organizational (foundational) elements of a Tier 2 & Tier 3 support system in place? 3. Are the critical elements of a Tier 2 & Tier 3 support system in place?

  11. Four Sections of MATT • Section A. Tier 1 Critical Element (p. 6, Item 1) • Tier 1 Level of Implementation • Section B. Tier 2 & 3 Organizational Elements (p. 6 – 7, Items 2 - 6) • Team Meets Regularly • Coordinator Identified • Data-based Process for Student Identification • Process for Monitoring Impact and Fidelity • Communication Process with Stakeholders • Section C: Tier 2 Critical Elements (p.8-9, Items 7-8) • Tier 2 Intervention(s) are consistent with school-wide expectations, evidence-based, efficient, implemented with fidelity, have documented procedures, and a process for monitoring progress • Section D: Tier 3 Critical Elements (p.9-10, Items 9-12) • Knowledgeable team • Interventions are evidenced-based • BSPs are Individualized, include problem statement, strategies for preventing and minimizing reward of problem behavior, rewarding appropriate behavior, linked to function, process for collecting and using data, and a means of assessing fidelity

Organization Tips • Maintain all data sources in Tier 2/3 binder • Organized like the Tier 1 Products Book • Contains evidence of Tier 2/3 systems, practices and data • Contents • Team member registry • Tier 2 Interventions Documentation • Coordinator job description, ID process, Intervention descriptions, Communication Plan, • Data – Student and group • Student Plans • Staff training • Assessments – Fidelity, MATT, BAT • Other – Guiding Questions, Request for assistance, Competing Pathways

Instructions for Completing MATT • Who: The coach and the team(s) or individuals involved with Tiers 2 and 3 behavior support. • How: The coach interviews the team using the questions on the Coaches’ Interview Guide. The answers to these initial questions allow teams to get a score for each item of the MATT. • Scoring: Scores for each item (2=fully in place, 1=in progress/partially in place, or 0= not started) are recorded on the Team Scoring Guide on pages 6 thru 10 Data sources include permanent products such as FBAs, BIPs and documents related to referring, monitoring and notification.

  15. www.pbisassessment.org Go to the PBIS Assessment Website, and click on LogIn to log in, either as a PBIS Assessment Coordinator or as a school.

  16. Entering the MATT Results Once the school has entered the school code and has logged into the school PBIS Assessment site, the survey can be accessed by clicking on the arrow under Actions:

  17. Entering the MATT Enter the date that the MATT was completed. (This can be a previous date). Begin entering the scores for each section.

  18. Entering the MATT Note: Screenshot here is of BAT not MATT Continue through the survey, clicking on the arrows to move to the next page. When completed, click on Submit Survey.

  19. Completing the MATT When the survey is completed, you’ll receive this notice: The Total Score, Subscale Score, Items and Download Reports will be available for viewing or exporting.

  20. MATT Total Score Report The total score report provides information on the % of items implemented in Tiers 2 and 3.

  21. MATT Subscale Report The Subscale Report provides the % of implementation of each of the Elements

  22. MATT Items Report The Items report provides a copy of the information that was entered into PBIS Assessment.

  23. Using the Data for Action Planning Target Date Use the results of the MATT to Action Plan for improved implementation
