20 November 2012 • OBJECTIVE: Compare and contrast the three types of volcanoes. • DO NOW: • Take out HW (Volcanoes WS) • Pick up WS from front table (do not glue) • INTRO: Volcanoes are destructive forces, but they are necessary for the Earth and Humans. How can volcanoes be beneficial to the Earth and Humans?
Volcano Pen Pals • Pretend you witness the eruption of a volcano. Write a letter to a friend describing what you saw before the eruption, during the eruption, and after the eruption.
Volcano Pen Pals • Use your notes and textbook (Ch. 9 begins on pg. 248) to help you • At least ten (10) sentences • Paragraph should include: • Describe the type of volcano • Describe the type of eruption • Describe the type of molten rock associated with that type of eruption. Include: • How silica affects molten rock? • What is the viscosity of the molten rock? • Are gases trapped? • Describe what pyroclastic material is erupted from the volcano • (Ex: lava, ash, volcanic bombs, pyroclastic flows, etc)
